Two More Days of Treatment

Well the 30C temp rise and salt has almost killed off the dreaded white spot- yay! All the victims are recovering nicely and have taken to the extra heat quite well. Darn scaleless fish- I had my white spot treatment all ready to go and then realised almost all the fish we have are scaleless, but it has worked out excellently for all anyway so it's all good :)
The Clown Loaches are down to just a couple of spots each and the poor little Pakistani Loach which had the worst, went from covered in it, to also only having one or two left on him- now if we can just get the other Pakistani to stop chasing him around it will all be good.
Did a partial water change on both tanks and found out why there was a funky smell coming from one of them- the old filter pad was full of bio matter- yeuck... no matter I had put a new one under it and the new one had a nice build up of stuff so I pulled the old one and took it off and gave it a good wash under hot water and left it to soak in hot water until it cooled. No smell now and no interruption of the bio cycle either.
The bristles are all growing fast- must be the cucumber I feed them :) they love it and if I am lucky they leave a small piece for me to fish out. Beats them trying to eat the Nitrazyme bag- it's looking pretty chewed up from the bristles rasping on it. The largest of the bristles has just started producing his bristles and we are like elated parents- "aww look at his little bristles, isn't he cute". Why do the shop bristlenoses never seem to have the wonderful swirls of bristles that I have seen in photos? Is it just that they are young or some other reason? Are there different types of bristles for bristlenoses? I was trying to work out why bristles were so cute when I realised they look like sock-puppets! We are hoping that some of them turn out to be girls so we can try our hand at breeding them. What happens when you breed an albino with a marbled? Do they just come out as one or the other? How do the genetics work out with bristlenoses- what is dominant with them and what is recessive? I need to find a good site on the breeding of bristlenoses.
Still want to rush off to the LFS and buy all their E. Yellows so I can have a tank of Cichlids- I am SO impatient but I now have to wait until the last of the white spot has perished before I can even consider getting any more fish.
Starting to have some long term plans on a saltwater tank- some of the tanks I have seen here are very inspiring :) One of the LFS's has a nice setup of a tank and stand that is 6 foot long and its not too pricey. The only problem is we had trouble fitting in the 4' tank- we would have to move out lounge chairs if we wanted to put a 6 footer in. Though we could go for a small tank for the saltwater and another small tank for the Red Forest Jewels I like but it would amount to the same space issue- oh well there is always space in the bedroom :P
